Emphatic

The champions are back..and in style..what a game, a complete joy to watch..especially for a purist like me who loves it fast, slick and on the deck.Good football for me is like good food..it is always satisfying to watch united or arsenal play..and to a lesser extent even the Chelsea(under Guus and now Ancelloti).

This post was not planned...it is just that i cant hold my emotions after yesterdays match..but then a football post was inevitable keeping in mind my love for the beautiful game.It was pure class from both the teams but united wanted it a bit more, they were totally up for it.I guess that's what distinguishes champions from contenders..that extra bit of steel, mental strength and desire.

The final score line of Man united 3 - 1 Arsenal was a good reflection of the game. The first goal for united was from Nani, a player who had been getting a lot of stick of late for his inconsistency and attitude but it looks like he had turned it around at the right time with consistent performance in the last four games. The goal was really a work of genius, Nani has always had the skill but lacked application and being in the shadow of Ronaldo dint help either. This goal was special and of a different class. The skill he used to trick the full back and the supporting defender was just sublime and then topped with the quick shift of feet to leave another defender to death and lob the ball over the keeper for the goal made it a spectacle to watch. Even Ronaldo would have admired his international colleagues skill.Sir Alex's faith to select him instead of Valencia was thus justified.

If you want to know what a counter attack in football means then you should check out united's second goal.It was a perfect out of the text book counter attack. United cleared there lines from an Arsenal attack and the ball came to feet of inspiring Rooney. He then swept it to the motivated winger who carried it into the arsenal third and then made a perfectly weighted pass for Rooney who made a 70 yard sprint to finish off the move.Rooney has been on fire this season and is being mooted as the most in form striker in the league. He has shown great speed and desire to make that run.I can't think of many other strikers willing to do that.We hear people saying that we should do what we love to do to succeed in life. But many of us don't know what we really want to do.Its not the case with Rooney. He is born to play football.

The third goal was a mistake from the arsenal defence. They completely lost the marking on Ji Sung Park who carried the ball from the half was line and slid it pass the helpless Almunia.Arsenal were however able to salvage some pride and pull one back through Vermalean courtesy of a deflection from the united defender.I was completed satisfied with the quality of football on display.90 minutes well spent considering the free time available after CAT exam.

I do regret missing the Australian open final for which i was able to tune in only for the post match presentation.Yet again king Federer reigned. It was a very emotional defeat for Murray who broke in to tears saying "I can cry like Roger but i cant play like him".But the British can take heart in the fact that he was undone by the best in the business and as said by Federer himself that he is too good a player not to win any grand slam.It was a great weekend for a sports lover to relish.
